Dad’s Wedding

For those of you who didn’t know, Dad and Debbie were sealed in the Portland Temple on January 29^th. Rob, Jesse, Chris and Cameron all made the insanely long trip to be here for it. We had a blast with them here. They stayed at our place and they were champs. It was ridiculously crowded and everyone had a great attitude. Just to be clear I’ll name everyone that stayed here for two nights. Rob, Jesse, Chris, Cameron, Emily, Liz, Ash, Ben, Me, Cameron and Sawyer. Yup. 11 people in our tiny two bedroom place. There were people sleeping everywhere. Lol. Poor Jesse even ended up on the Kitchen floor where he FROZE half the night only to move over by the entry way where there was only enough room to curl up like a sad little potato bug L Like I said. Everyone was great about it and we had so much fun. Thanks to Jocelyn and Rachelle for lending us your husbands!!!! Wish you could have been here.

Potty Training

So, Cam is potty trained. Whew! It was a CRAZY 3 days. I did the 3-day boot camp that Jocelyn gave me. I waited til Ben’s week end, stocked up on under-roos (as cam calls them), and dug in my heels. Just so you know, I was certain that It would fail. He seemed too young, he showed no interest, but I was determined to give it a whirl. For half of the first day he was completely clueless. He had no idea why I was picking him up and RUNNING him to the toilet. He really enjoyed putting his wet underwear in the washer and saying “EWWW! Sicky!” The second half of the day was better and he started to get it. He only wet the bed once and that was my fault. He was calling me in the morning and I didn’t get there quick enough. It doesn’t sound stressful but it was. On the upside, Cameron and I haven’t had that much fun in a very long time. Ben took Sawyer for the whole three days and I never left Cameron’s side. We played and read books and laughed. We had a lot of fun together.

Christmas was a ton of fun this year. Everything is getting more fun with Cam growing up.

Cameron, Melissa and Jenna came from Utah and we had so much fun spending time with them. We spent the night over at Dad’s on Christmas Eve so we could join in all the festivities and be there for opening presents in the morning.

We had a hard time not spoiling Cameron. It’s so hard with only one kid. He’s only two. He didn’t need much so we tried to limit it…not to mention we have toys coming out of our ears. We only took a few to Dad’s cause I didn’t want to haul everything there and home the next day. His aunts were very nice and let him rip open their presents as well :)

So, one thing that was pretty special was Sawyer’s Blessing. Ben blessed him at my Dad’s house on Christmas. It was just Ben, Dad and my brother Cameron. I loved it. It was so small and personal. Very cool. I wouldn’t mind blessing all of our kids at home.

Oh yeah, I chopped off my hair and have never been happier!

Halloween is starting to get fun now that Cam is getting older. He’s just getting the hang of it and although it makes him nervous, he’s adorable!

We went to the trick or treating downtown Corvallis and he looked so confused the entire time and just STARED at all the costumes.

This year he was the Karate Kid…or A Karate Kid… He was sooooo excited. He wanted to wear his costume all day long and kick everything. He just kept saying Hiya! and Goku…If you don’t know who Goku is, be glad. If you do, just know that I am not the nerd, my husband is (well, he is the nerd in this case)

Long Time Gone

So, this morning I read Jocelyn’s blog and felt horribly guilty that I don’t blog more. I hate blogging. Hate it. However, living so far away from family and friends, it is one of the only ways to let everyone know what we are up to. I think it just feels so boring to me…same thing every day. Well I do NOT promise to be better at blogging, but I will do some catch up blogging right now. PS…one of the reasons I HATE blogging is that I have no clue if anyone is reading it and I figure that if no one is reading it then it is an enormous waste of my time…So if you read it…leave a COMMENT! Let me know that I am not wasting my time…

Well, I've put this off far too long. Let me introduce the newest member to the Coombs Clan.

Sawyer Jackson Coombs...WOOT WOOT! I was beginning to think that he would never come and I was destined to be pregnant forever! Just kidding. I know that the chances of being pregnant forever are only like, one in 450,000 or something like that.

So here's his life story.

Tuesday morning he decided to enter this world with a splash...literally, my water broke at 6:30 am. Emily was our babysitter for Cam and she lives about an hour away, so I called her to tell her not to go to school and keep her phone on for when my contractions got going. 10 minutes later they got going so I called her again and told her to head over. They started coming pretty close together so by the time she got here, we ran out the door.

By 9:00 we were admitted and settled comfortably (I use the term VERY loosely) in our labor and delivery suite. I decided to have an epidural around 11:30 which was good times. I love anesthesiologists. Love them!! We just hung out for while before Ben decided to go get lunch. I was only dialated to a 4 when I got the epidural so we figured we had time. (Cam's labor was like 18-20 hours) Well, our midwife came to check me while he was gone and said, and I quote, "Whoa!" She said that this kid was ready to come and it was time to push. Yup, Ben was still getting lunch so while she was getting her stuff ready, I kept trying to call him but he got no service in the hospital. Luckily, he showed up of his own accord just in time. Well, 15 minutes of pushing brought Sawyer into our lives at 2:37 pm. Piece of cake...

He weighed 8 lbs 6 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. That's exactly one pound and 2 inches bigger than Cam was at birth.

Cam came to visit in the hospital and it was love at first sight.

So far, he is ALWAYS this mellow. We'll see if it sticks, but he is super quiet and patient with everything.

Not a red-head! You would not believe how many people told me that he would have bright red hair. I was, however, surprised by how dark he was. My kids do NOT look like me. (I guess that's better than them not looking like Ben, right? ha ha)

We're HOME! We only stayed one night. I was anxious to get home. Here's Emily, Cam and Sawyer. Cameron is one PROUD and protective brother...

I am still getting used to having a baby again. Cameron always expects bites of anything I am eating, so I have had to stop myself a couple times from giving Sawyer bites of my banana or yogurt or whatever I've got. Good grief.

Cameron is SUPER excited. He really is the proudest older brother I could imagine. He will do anything for the sake of the baby. Throw away diapers, bring blankets, clean up his toys, bring me water or any other errand I choose to send him on as long as it somehow benefits "the baby." Having Sawyer around makes me realize how old Cam really is when I used to see him as the baby. He looks ridiculous in diapers. One more thing to do...*sigh*

Ben's got work off for a little while so he's been taking Cam on full force so I can recover and spend time with Sawyer. I have no idea what he's going to do when his best friend goes back to work... They've been having a blast together.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON!

It's official; I have a two-year old. It's really hard to believe. Time passes so quickly. We went on a hospital tour the other day which brought memories of Cam's birth flooding and I swear it was NOT two years ago. Feels like months maybe. He's growing up so fast! Okay, really I just thought that I would post some pictures of his big day.

So, his birthday was on a Saturday but we did his party on Sunday so my dad and sisters could come. It was so much fun. Ben and I had a blast making his cake. We decided that instead of a cake, we'd do more of an Oreo dirt cup thing...but we made it into a cake sized pan and did graham crackers and vanilla Oreos on the bottom for sand and vanilla pudding with whipped cream, cream cheese and bananas in it, then decorate the top with gummi sharks, swedish fish, lobsters, chocolate rocks, etc. I overdid all the fish and stuff but that's exactly why he loved it. He was sooooo excited by it and ate tons of it. He kept pointing at it and yelling, "FISH! FISH!" Ben helped him blow out the two little candles (thank goodness.)

He really enjoyed being a spoiled little boy. Out of all of his presents though, one of his favorites was the leftover wrapping paper?! What a dork. So I taped it up and it became his sword and he yelled "hi-YAH" hitting everything in sight.

We got him a little Leapfrog Laptop due to his OBSESSION with our laptop. He carries his "puter" all over the house and makes sure he puts it in the diaper bag when we go places. It has a couple volume settings and I always try to inconspicuously place it on the lower setting, but he ALWAYS knows and turns it up as loud as it goes. He turns on the music and dances til it's time to turn it on again. He's learning his animals too. He likes to bzzzzzzz like a "bum-bee."

35 1/2 weeks!

Well, it's been a while so I really should give a decent update...here goes.

I am currently 35 and 1/2 weeks pregnant. YAY! Everything has been going VERY well for myself and the baby. We have been very blessed. We are getting really excited here towards the end. We are still trying to teach Cam about the baby, but he is confused on several levels. 1. When I ask him where Sawyer is, he pats my stomach 1/3 of the time, Ben's stomach 1/3 of the time, and his own 1/3 of the time :) Close enough I guess. 2. If I am less specific and ask him where the baby is, he will point to the nearest child under 12 years old. Apparently that qualifies. 3. I've been sorting through his old clothes, washing and folding etc, and he finds the smallest newborn clothes we have and attempts diligently to put them on.

Ben and I are a little less confused and mostly nervous about the jump from one kid to two. I feel nervous about how Cam will react and how we will love another baby as much as him. I know it is possible, but it sure doesn't seem like it. I think I am more nervous about this baby than I was about Cameron. Well, no going back now LOL!

Having Ben out of school for the summer has been AMAZING! I can't believe that I'm going to have to send him back in a month. It doesn't help that his classes start the day after Sawyer's dues date. And since I have full confidence that I will be late, that's kind of depressing.

We've had a busy busy month! We stayed out on my Dad's property for a couple of weeks while they were in Utah which required many trips back and forth between church, doctor's appointments, school registration etc. Ben and I were released from the nursery which made me REALLY sad. We loved our 8 little boys. :( Ben was called to be the President of the Missionary Committee and is sooooo excited about it and I was called to the Primary Presidency....hmmmm I guess the timing is never really convenient...and I am really enjoying it.

Jenna, Melissa and Ashlyn (my three youngest sisters) came from Utah and got to stay with us for a little while which made Cam the happiest little boy in the world! They spoiled him rotten!

About a week later, my Mom came into town and helped me get the boys room decorated and organized..Whew. I was not looking forward to doing it alone and could NOT have done it without her. Again, Cam got spoiled, but this time, so did I :)

Ben's brother Cameron (confused yet? we'll call him Cameron Michael) came to visit and stayed for about 5 days. Ben was in heaven. He's really been missing his little brother and we had a blast with him here. It was a long trip for him to make alone but we are SO grateful that he did. THANKS CAMERON!!!!!! Did I mention that he spoiled little Cam too?

Needless to say, after all of our visitors had gone, I was left with a little boy who could NOT be satisfied with the time and energy I had for him. Finally things are getting back to normal.

Cam's birthday is coming up fast (September 4th) and we are looking forward to it. I cannot believe that he will be two years old. I honestly cannot believe how time flies!!! That means we are coming up on our 2 year mark of moving to Oregon. Wow. Hard to believe.

It's been a pretty good summer but we've had a few weeks that were HOT. Cam enjoyed running around with no clothes on and eating popsicles :)

He couldn't eat his popsicle fast enough so it melted EVERYWHERE. Luckily he was already in water :) Our little pool was so sad. We don't really have any way to fill it up in our backyard so the first time Ben and I filled it up with pitchers from the sink :) Took forever as you can imagine, and we barely went to the first ring. Later our neighbor got a hose and let us use that...thank goodness!

Cameron has no interest in food whatsoever at the moment. Okay I lied, he does like a few things...Popcorn, Oatmeal, Frosted Mini Wheats and spoonfuls of peanut butter. What a strange child. Here he is chillin with his popcorn.

There are a couple of things that make him feel super cool. #1 When he has his hands in his pockets. I've never seen him so proud as when he found out that he had pockets. #2 Grandpas sunglasses. Not on his eyes, but on top of his head. I don't even know where he learned that?! #3 I don't have a picture of it, but he loves to wear Ben's hats backwards. He just struts around the house like he owns the world.

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything. I thought that I would take this opportunity to post some pictures as well as let you all know that we are expecting our second BOY at the end of September. I am outnumbered as usual :) We are super excited!

Ben is still busy with school and work. We are both anxious for him to have school off this summer. The weather has been GORGEOUS here so Cam and I are outside as much as possible. We have a great little park about 2 minute's walk from here. Feels so great to get out after being cooped up all winter.

Well, I'll throw some pictures on for your viewing enjoyment...

My sisters were visiting and they put Cam's favorite stuffed animal in a ziploc bag so it could go in the bath with him. At first he thought it was funny, then he started panicking thinking that he would never be able to get it out...

His favorite thing to do outside is to collect sticks. This is his prize and he tries to carry it everywhere. He gets upset when I don't let him bring it inside :)

He does EVERYTHING Ben does. Puts pens behind his ear, drinks from big water bottles, takes showers,and on this particular occasion, he was fixing the vacuum with Ben.

Cam was trying to take over while waiting for the doctor. It was so cold in there and they told us to keep his clothes off. Too bad they didn't tell us it would be SOOOOOO long. I'm not sure what I really expected.

Cam is really a Daddy's boy. He tries to do EVERYTHING he sees Ben do. It is so cute. He tries so hard with the weights that we're afraid he'll get a hernia. It is so funny to watch him try though. If will power could move it...he would.

Sometimes I lay a small pile of Cheerios on the bed for him to eat and he decides to stick his face in it. It's not a one-time deal that he's got Cheerios all over his face. Lol

Speaking of Cheerios. He's such a dork. Look how lazy he is trying to eat them off of his stomach. I don't remember how this really happened, but it was pretty awesome. He was super-tired :)

Never as happy as when in his stroller, even if he's not going anywhere...

I gave him a muffin...I have no idea what I was thinking, but at least it cleans up easily.

Cam climbs now... on everything. There is a drawer under his crib and that is one of his favorite places to climb into and he'll just sit there. I was cleaning in the other room and I heard a panicked cry. I ran in and saw his legs stuck. It was hilarious. Needless to say, I ran and got the camera.

Nothing exciting I know, But I thought that I was WAY overdue for posting something. Ben is busy with Work and School and I am just enjoying my time with Cam. He's growing up so fast! We are really looking forward to a trip to Utah over Valentines Day weekend. It will be Ben's first time back since we moved. I on the other hand will be making my 3rd trip with Cam in 3 months. Blah, but it will be a lot easier with Ben, and we do get to fly home, so hopefully it helps only driving one way...I'll post more pics, I have a TON.

He will go into the MTC on October 7. We are all so excited. It will be sad for him to leave. He will be SORELY missed...especially his piano playing :)

Cam has been SOOOO much fun lately. Seriously! He is scooting all over the place and starting to crawl. He eats everything he can get his hands on. He has 8 teeth and he knows how sharp they are. What is it that tempts everyone with whom he comes in contact to stick a finger in his mouth. Just to check if they really are sharp? I guess, well he bites them. :) He's finally starting to grow some hair...finally.

Well, I couldn't restrain myself. Wouldn't he have made a pretty little girl? Lol

Chaz and I took Cam when we went picking strawberries. He enjoyed it thoroughly. I had to keep crackers in each hand so that he would stop eating strawberry leaves. I can't believe he could even reach them but Chaz and I kept pulling leaves out of his mouth.

He thinks the empty bath is his playpen. He tries really hard to turn on the water. Thank goodness he can't reach yet!

Long time no post... Get ready for LOTS of pics:) The weather has been gorgeous here so we are having a blast outside. Cam LOVES it outside. He loves Rogue and Riken (the dogs) and the cat. He can't get enough. Tons of waterskiing, BBQs, parks, etc.

Benny...first time on the boat. It was so gorgeous! He went tubing but I couldn't talk him in to skiing :(

Cam cam and Grandpa. Best buddies. Cam lights up whenever Grandpa comes in. He loves to just hang out. He gets offended if Grandpa walks past him without saying hi.

S'mores anyone? Our friends Kathy and Conner were camping and they invited us out for a BBQ. It was tons of fun. Cam had his first s'mores and loved them. We played games and went to the park right across the street from the campsite. It was a beautiful evening. Tons of fun.

First time in a hammock. It doesn't look like he's having fun but he could not stop laughing. It was so stinking cute!

Standing man! kind of. He's getting there. He loves to try. He walks along the couch and stands for about 10 seconds before he gets too excited and tips or collapses. He sure does try though.

Okay...I haven't posted anything in forever because SOO much was happening, which means I have that much more to catch up on. This will be a long one so HANG ON:)

March was a CRAZY month. Ben, Cameron and I were sealed in the Portland Temple on March 17th!

It was amazing. Having grown up in Oregon, this one is my personal favorite. It is so gorgeous.

It was such a special experience. One we'd looked forward to for a while. Words can't describe the feelings and emotions we experienced. Cameron was so handsome! Our friend Kathy made Cam's little outfit. It was perfect! We're lucky to have her. It was a REALLY long day (plus Portland is an hour and a half away) so I was terrified that Cam would be a mess and scream the entire time. Nope, he was perfect. Cooed once as he was being sealed to us but otherwise just looked around a lot.

Like I said Cameron was an angel which was impressive, because by the end, I was exhausted.

Ben's parents and sister were there, my parents and Rob, Jocelyn and Jesse came. Most everyone had to travel a long way to be here for it which was hard but we were so glad they came.

Callie, Ben's sister, had JUST gotten home from her mission in Maryland. We knew of each other from working at Copper Hills Youth Center but this was the first time I really talked to her. It was really great that she was able to be there. Timing was perfect.

Rob, Jocelyn, Rylee and Jesse came too! This was my first time meeting my little niece Rylee. She is sooooo funny. Too many pictures. I'll do a slideshow.

Time for some new pics!
The goober makes funny faces all the time. Never fails that if he's left alone for longer than a minute or so, he will start making outrageous noises and faces. It's rare to catch any on camera. When I took this one, he was laughing and then started to pretend like he was sad. He'd laugh for a minute or so and do it again. It makes me wonder what is going through his head. And yes those are socks on his hands. Combination of being cold, scratching himself ALL the time and he loves chewing on the socks. I think it helps with teething, who knows. He's a dork.

Cameron helping Grandpa fix the chainsaw....yikes! Cameron doesn't really care what he is doing as long as Grandpa is there. His whole face lights up when my dad walks in and cries when he leaves. I'm not sure when that happened.

Naked boy! Cameron's hit the stage where he LOVES the water. He'd stay in forever if I let him. Maybe it's just cause he loves having his clothes off..

Teething Sucks! (...or Bites?)

Cam has been teething. His very first little tooth made it's debut Thursday and we were SO excited! He was still pretty fussy however and so I checked it out and sure enough, his second one is pushing it's way up right next door.

It looks really close. I thought it would be in today but no such luck. Hopefully tomorrow.

Cameron's symptoms include a waterfall of drool at any given time, gnawing on his fist to the point of gagging, cranky and needy. You can tell he's trying to be brave and sweet but it's just so hard.

I feel bad for the little guy. In response to my question "Is teething as bad as it sounds?" The pediatrician responded, "Do you know how it feels teething? It's like the biggest bone in one's body piercing through his flesh and skin!"

OUCH! I wish I could take it away from him :( I guess this is just the beginning of a life of pain that I have zero control of. This is going to be difficult for me.

So, This is supposedly a 12 month outfit....Really? Cause Cam is ALMOST 5 months and it's pretty snug...I know he's big for his age but not that big. Hmmm. Well just curious if anyone else thought that was weird.

We went to the coast today. It was Ben and Cameron's first time on the beach. Ben planned on swimming until we got into the water. Oregon beach is COLD! It's fun to look at and maybe wade in, but swimming in January is out of the question. I was pleased when he changed his mind. No need to take a detour to the hospital for a severe case of hypothermia!

Cameron, on the other hand, did not enjoy the beach. I bundled him up in everything I could find but his poor little nose stayed cold. He couldn't figure out what was supposed to be so fun about it. He definitely didn't like the diaper change in the stroller...but it was better than in the sand or wind! Not many options but we make do.:)

Dad brought kites and Emily was a pro. Chaz brought a shovel and spent hours digging. :) No one was surprised.

We lucked out though. It hit 50 degrees today in Newport. The sun even came out for a while and we barely recognized where we were. Had a blast.

It's been far too long since I updated our blog. Cameron and I have been pretty sick. For Thanksgiving, my dad and sisters went to Utah to visit everyone. I was SOOOOO jealous. I wanted to see everyone, but ESPECIALLY little Rylee and Landon. They are so adorable in their pictures. My biggest fear is that they are going to be all grown up before I see them.:(

Dad, Chaz, Emily and Liz took off for South Dakota right after church...(we only had sacrament meeting because they were anticipating snow.:) Oregon is funny) They have a 25 hour drive in the truck ahead of them and 2 dogs kennelled in the truckbed. yikes! They were all really excited so I hope they have fun.

We are looking forward to seeing Ben's family. They are leaving Utah tonight and we'll see them tomorrow. I am a little worried about my family and his driving in bad weather but our prayers will be with them.

Cameron is growing so fast! He has hit 15 pounds and 26 1/2 inches. He smiles and laughs. He loves his Bumbo chair and his Johnny Jump-Up. He is such a sweet kid. Hope you like the new pics!

Halloween was a lot of fun. Melissa and Jenna came trick-or-treating with us. Melissa was a Snow Queen and Jenna was a lady bug. Both were adorable. Emily and Lizzy did their hair and make up. They loved the pampering:) When they got home, we played some games and counted candy. Jenna was so proud of her 106 pieces, but in all honesty, it was only about 73 pieces, she just can't count very well past 29:)

Rob was here for the weekend. He drove the Avalon up and flew home Sunday. It was a quick trip but we had a blast. The girls were thrilled to see him. Cameron missed him tons. We played games, showed him around the property, listened the Utah game and went to church. We were all so glad to see him. It made me miss Jocelyn a ton.

We got rid of our apartment in Utah on the 31st. Just in time for them to pay rent. It was an enormous blessing. We couldn't have done it without Rob and Jocelyn's help showing the apartment and carrying the burden and stress of it.

We are happy, healthy and doing really well. We love you all.

Oregon

Ben, Cameron and I are so excited to be here in Oregon. For me, it is home. I have been eager to return since I left over 13 years ago. We are living in Sweet Home right now, which is about an hour and a half south of Portland and about the same distance from the coast. It is gorgeous here. Prettiest place in Oregon in my opinion. With the fall colors in full array, everywhere we look seems to belong on the front of a calendar.

Cameron is 9 weeks old today and growing like a weed. It is astounding to me how time seems to fly. We are having so much fun now that he talks (coos) frequently and smiles constantly. He loves nothing more than being outside so we take walks as much as possible. Ben can't wait for him to start crawling so he can chase the little guy around the house:) We are thrilled about being parents and are so proud of Cameron.

We miss Utah and all of our family and friends there. We'll keep posting lots of pictures of little Cam so you don't miss much. Lots of love, Ben, Cameron and Laura
